If you start to notice that your plumbing is having minor issues there are some things that you can try on your own to see if you can get the problem to go away. If you notice that your plumbing is clogged or smelly you may need to try a few things on your own to help you clean them. Many times, our clients are able to fix a minor problem on their own by using one of these methods below.
Kitchen or Bathroom Sink Smells Bad Like Rotten Eggs?
If you notice that your sinks smell bad this first tip is for you! Get some baking soda, salt, and vinegar out of your pantry. Mix ½ cup baking soda with ¼ table salt. Pour it down the drain that is bothering you. Then pour 1 cup of heated vinegar in after it. When the vinegar mixes with the baking soda and salt mixture it will begin to foam and bubble. You will want to cover the drain with a plug or some tape to keep the mixture in the drain. Allow the bubbles and foam to do their job for 15 minutes. Then run hot water down the drain for 30-60 seconds. This process should leave your drain smelling significantly better than it did before.
How to Clean a Smelly Drain
Tip number two requires some more baking soda. This time you are going to mix it with some lemon juice. Take ½ cup baking soda and pour it down the drain. Immediately pour ½ cup lemon juice down the drain after that. Plug the drain and allow the mixture to sit for one hour. After an hour has passed, pour a pot of boiling water down the drain to complete the process.
Baking Soda Odor Eliminator for Drains
Baking soda is the magic ingredient in our third suggestion as well. This time you are going to mix ½ cup baking soda with ½ cup salt and 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar. Put the ingredients in a jar with the lid on it and shake the jar up well. Put half of the contents of the jar down the drain. Pour a large pot of boiling water on top of the mixture. Let it all sit in your drain for one hour and then run tap water down the drain for one minute to rinse any remaining solution down the drain.
