How Does a Dishwasher Work?
Strategically placing rinsed off dishes in the dishwasher after adding the detergent accordingly, setting it to the wash cycle, and turning it on, the dishwasher does all the heavy lifting from there. After the dishwasher is started, it is supposed to add water and heats it to the proper temperatures. Once it is properly activated, the dishwasher will dispense the detergent and the water shoots from the jets to get the dishes clean and sanitized. The filthy water drains, and the dishwasher will spray the dishes down again for a final rinse. There are several sensors that are designed to detect the water levels to ensure the dishwasher’s efficiency and overall performance. More often than not, people do not even realize their dishwashers are not even filling with water.
Why Dishwasher Won’t Fill with Water
Listed below are a few of the most common issues as to why the water is not filling the dishwasher.
1) A kinked hose or hoses. Within the dishwasher, there is a kick-plate panel with hoses attached to it. The water cannot reach the dishwasher if these hoses are kinked or damaged. Inspect the hoses and make sure they are not kinked and undamaged. Replace any damaged hoses and straighten any kinks.
2) The float is damaged. Inside of the dishwasher, there is component known as the float and its purpose is to recognize when enough water has filled inside the dishwasher and then stopping water flow. The water won’t flow into the dishwasher should the float get stuck at its pre-set level. If the float switch doesn’t respond and needs replacing, or if float gets stuck from debris causing it stick or prevents it from lowering.
3) The door switch is malfunctioning. Water will not fill if the sensor cannot detect whether or not the door is closed when the dishwasher’s door switch fails to operate properly. Visually inspect the switch for any signs of damage as well as the prong inside the tub. You will need to replace any broken pieces you find. You will have to test if it is working with a multi-meter or contact a professional plumber if the switch is in good condition.
